Vultures play a crucial role as scavengers in the diverse ecosystems of the African savannah, recycling nutrients back into the environment.

While New Zealand may not have vultures in the wild, our collaboration with local New Zealand company Metalbird has brought five life-sized white-headed vultures to Auckland Zoo’s Africa Safari Track. These outdoor sculptures are perched throughout, offering visitors a chance to spot and appreciate these magnificent birds.

Metalbird, supporting conservation for threatened bird species both locally and overseas, has also created a smaller white-headed vulture sculpture, exclusively available through Metalbird and our Zoo Shop.
